Sony has released a new version of its PlaySatation 4 console , the 20th Anniversary Edition, with only 12,300 units globally, available in its original gray color.  The retail price will be $500 which includes a stand for vertical mounting and a PS4 Camera in the box.

The PS4, now one year old, is most likely already one of the most successful games consoles of all time. It has been purchased by 13 million gamers worldwide. A games console built by gamers for gamers, it boasts with more graphical power than the Xbox One, 32 times more system memory than the PS3 and a focus on pure gaming experiences rather than media might.

PS4 vs Xbox One

When compared to the hulking and cube like, rather enormous Xbox One, the PS4’s parallelogram form is small and sleek, half the size and weight of the Xbox One. The full measurements are 275 x 53 x 305 mm – a lot more compact than an Xbox One. Also, the power supply of the PS4 is placed inside the system, whereas the Xbox One still has the external power brick in addition.

What do you get?

In addition to the sleek, stylish console, you also get a power cord (not a power brick), an HDMI cable, an earbud and a microphone, one DualShock 4 controller and its charging cable and you don’t get other ones for extra controllers so hold on to that one. As far as the setup is concerned, the PS4 is really easy to unpack, leaving minimal mess. Once it is plugged in and booted up, it will ask to connect to the internet to download the latest patches, but it doesn’t need them for offline play. You can skip this altogether and just pop in a game. The game controller is basically the same, but includes a few features like a “share” button and a colored light to easily identify multiple players. You can see it unpacked here.

The PS4 is more powerful than its predecessor, with a heavy-duty processor and an enhanced graphics chip, an enhanced game network that streams content, even allowing you to  begin playing a game before the download is complete. Games can easily be moved to the hand-held PlayStation Vita or even other devices like smartphones or tablets. As far as social gaming is concerned, the PS4 makes it easier to integrate social activities into games – it’s now really simple to invite friends to play, to “spectate” other people’s games, or even ask a remote friend to take over the controls to get you to the next level. So, what games can you play? Some of them are Infamous: Second Son, The Last of Us Remastered, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Resogun and many more.

Sony’s streamlined philosophy that puts games first, new features and firmware updates that improve the stability and speed of the system have been some of the reasons gamers keep choosing Sony. As the creators say themselves: “We’re focusing on that core gamer, the gamer who wants the ultimate experience and lives for gaming.”
