Blogging has become a very popular form of expression online. The more readers you get to your blog the more successful it will be and that is of course what you want! While getting your blog going is the easy part, getting as many readers as possible is a bit harder as it takes effort and dedication.

So, if you want to reach the world with your words, begin by following the below tips to get things rolling on the right path!

Tip 1: Target Your Audience

audience

One of the biggest mistakes new bloggers make is thinking that they should spread their blog content far and wide. They put their blog out there to the whole world which may seem like a good idea but really it defeats the purpose of building an audience. What you should be doing is focusing on a specifically targeted audience.

Another first time blogger mistake is choosing to do their blog on the top most popular web topics. Again, this may seem like a good idea but think of it like this … isn’t there enough cute puppy pics on the web? You don’t want to pick something everyone else does because then the competition will be too much and you will never take off!

More importantly, people are looking for new and thought-provoking content, not a re-hash of what’s already available to them. Be yourself, get creative and bring something new to the table (or internet!).

Tip 2: Write and Write a lot

People who take the time to visit your blog won’t waste their time coming back if you aren’t providing them with interesting and relevant content and lots of it. Keep writing new pots because blogs that are updated regularly draw more traffic. The key is setting up a schedule to update so your readers know when to expect new stuff.

When you keep your blog updated and relevant more people will refer other readers to your work and that bodes well for your blogs popularity.

Just make sure you meet your schedule!

Tip 3: Use Images

Images

It has been proven through various studies that blog posts that include pictures get an astounding 94% more hits than those with no pictures. Think of this … Pinterest and Instagram are two of the most popular forms of social media today, growing at an incredible rate. This tells us that internet viewers enjoy seeing photographs and a fantastic reason to add them to your blog!

In addition, when your posts are shared on other social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, the posts will stand out more. Just remember that you may be infringing on copyrights if you take pictures from Google so use a site where there are free images.

Tip 4: Why not Video?

YouTube is the biggest search engine outside of Google, which shows you just how powerful video can be as a traffic source. The great thing about marketing your brand on Youtube is that it can bring you in front of an entirely new audience and producing a video does not need to cost you any additional money at all.

This articles is all about free ways to drive traffic but it is worth mentioning that should mention that there are plenty of low cost video cameras that are perfect for filming video on a budget. The Sony Cyber-Shot WX80 is well under $200 to purchase for example. Canon PowerShot S110 is highly recommended by top camera reviewers under $280. But if you want to go the no cost options, just use your smartphone to record your initial videos!

Tip 5: SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!

Sharing your blog posts on your own social media accounts is always a great idea, but you should also share the posts and articles others have written. Yes, it may sound strange but here’s the thing – if you share the work of others, as long as it is relevant to your target audience, you will begin to meet people that are interested in your topic. The more you meet these peopxle the more you will pull in an audience. Also, if you share Tom’s work, Tom may just share your work helping you both to gain more exposure. It’s a win-win situation!

These methods really do work and they won’t cost you a penny!
